Thank You Letter
Tips for sending your follow-up letter:
- Within 24 hours of your interview send out an individualized acknowledgement letter to each person you met with.
- This letter is an opportunity to address the issues and the concerns that were mentioned during the interview.
- Use the thank-you letter as a follow-up "sales" letter. This is an opportunity to focus on what you have done that would be helpful in this position and to restate your successes as they relate to the position. This will help to reinforce for the interviewer(s) why you're qualified as well as your interest in the position and company.
- Mention anything of importance that your interviewer might have neglected to ask in person.
- This may be the last opportunity to make an impression. You've already invested time and a little more will go far to separate you from the other candidates. Make sure you put the appropriate time into this letter (see sample letters below).
- Choose your words carefully when using email. Email creates an instant written record that can be forwarded as well, so don't let the speed and the ease of sending it blind you to the fact that you will be judged on what you've said and how you've said it. Use SPELL CHECK before sending any letter. Just as a resume represents who you are so does a follow-up letter and a misspelled word indicates a lack of attention to detail and quality.
